Living in the woods

I have been very bad with my content calendar, here is a post I wrote a while ago I forgot to publish.

If you know me, you might know I sometimes become a little obsessed with a single topic. Generally, this involves me watching tons of YouTube videos on the subject, reading about it, studying it, and more.

Lately, I have been obsessed with the idea of a cabin in the woods or just a remote home in general.

Just the idea of having a simpler life…

Actually, it's not really that, I like my computer and technology. I think it is more with taking a break, having some time to unwind, and owning my own property.

Right now, when everything is aligned in my finances to buy a home, the market is not cooperating with me. It seems the price of homes is going up faster than I’m making money to pay for a home! Which is a bit of a problem. I am hoping I can own some land, and remote land could be cheaper.

The other aspect I have been watching about is building. One Youtuber (Actually it is Bush Radical, who I mentioned in a recent episode of the show) I watch goes about building their own home on their land and shows the entire process. I’m not sure I could do that myself. Sure, as a boy scout, I made a birdhouse, but never a people house.  And sure, through the video, he says “anyone can do this.” Perhaps I could, although I think I have bigger issues. The biggest one is that I need to live close to my work. I don’t really want to commute all that far. And two, at this time I can’t work remotely. And even if I could, I’m not sure I would want to with whatever cobbled together home I could make.

Sometimes the plans even get more elaborate. I think about developing some land near a national forest into a “writers’ retreat'' and provide small dwellings on a short term basis to visitors with a gorgeous view of a forest, for people who want isolation to work on a craft or just as a vacation. Since there are no services out there, it would also have to be a bed and breakfast.

I think it could be a really fun experience.

Really, I probably just need a vacation. We all need time to unwind, relax, enjoy nature, and unplug.  Still, perhaps sometime I will also have a remote cabin.
